Nigerian rap superstar Olamide has revealed the profound influence of late rapper DaGrin on his career, acknowledging how the deceased artist continues to inspire musicians nationwide.
In a viral video, Olamide emphasized that DaGrin’s ‘C.E.O’ album remains one of the few rap projects that Southwest Nigerians can recite verbatim. He described it as his essential motivation source during creative droughts.
The YBNL boss explained how revisiting DaGrin’s discography helps him overcome artistic blocks. He stated: “Dagrin’s ‘C.E.O’ album is timeless. It’s the only rap album nearly everyone in southwest Nigeria knows word for word. Dagrin inspired countless rappers. When we need creative fuel, we turn to his music.”
DaGrin, born Oladapo Olaonipekun, tragically died in an April 2010 auto accident. His musical legacy grew significantly posthumously.
The groundbreaking ‘C.E.O’ album pioneered indigenous language rap in Nigeria. It masterfully blended Yoruba, Pidgin, and English lyrics.
Olamide on International Validation
In a separate revelation, Olamide declared his indifference toward international recognition. The ‘Skido’ hitmaker stressed that understanding his core audience remains paramount, believing global appeal naturally follows authentic artistry.
