Nigerian music icon, Olamide, recently spoke out. He addressed the public reactions to his comment ranking Wizkid. Olamide had placed Wizkid as the leading Afrobeats act, after the legendary Fela Kuti.
Fans of Burna Boy and Davido quickly reacted. They took to social media, arguing their favorite artists also deserved top spots. This pushed back on Olamide’s initial statement.
Responding via his X handle, Olamide stated that musical opinions will always vary. He emphasized the vastness of the music industry. There is ample space for every artist to flourish, he noted.
Music lovers, he added, are free to support their chosen artists. They should do so without trying to diminish others’ achievements.
Olamide further explained that Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid have matured. They no longer get offended by opinions on rankings. Their sustained success, he believes, stems from focusing on their craft. They prioritize their work over engaging in arguments.
Olamide stressed that individual greatness cannot be diminished. He advised fans to support whoever they wish. “There’s plenty of room in the sky for everyone,” he affirmed.
He also highlighted the maturity of the top artists. “Burna, David, and Wiz are not easily offended by external opinions,” he clarified. This mindset, he concluded, contributes significantly to their current success.
