Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman Eddy Olafeso has accused those obstructing the party’s planned convention of attempting to establish a one-party system in Nigeria. Olafeso made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program.
Court Order Denounced as “Judicial Rascality”
Olafeso strongly condemned the Federal High Court ruling that halted the PDP’s scheduled November 15-16 convention in Ibadan, labeling it “the climax of judicial rascality.” He stated the party wasn’t surprised by the decision, viewing it as part of a wider conspiracy to weaken opposition forces.
“A determined group seeks to completely destroy our party, but we won’t allow it,” Olafeso declared. “Good will ultimately triumph over evil.” The PDP chieftain emphasized the party’s determination to challenge the ruling, asserting, “This decision shall not stand. Truth and justice must prevail.”
Alleged Plot Against 2027 Elections
Olafeso claimed the convention opposition has hidden motives to cripple the PDP before the 2027 general elections. He alleged these actions form part of a coordinated strategy to create single-party dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“Their agenda doesn’t serve the people,” Olafeso stated. “It aims to entrench a one-party state, which would severely harm our nation.” He criticized former PDP leaders who attained prominence through the party only to later betray it, questioning their rebellion against the platform that launched their careers.
Confidence in Overcoming Challenges
Despite these challenges, Olafeso expressed confidence in the PDP’s resilience against politically motivated attacks. He specifically mentioned Governor Sule Lamido’s earlier commitment to remain with the PDP contrasted with other members now allegedly supporting rival parties for 2027.
The former vice chairman reiterated the party’s determination to proceed with its convention plans, framing the struggle as crucial for preserving Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.
