Godwin Obaseki, former Edo State Governor, has accused his successor, Governor Monday Okpebholo. Obaseki claims Okpebholo sponsored an attack against him. This incident occurred during a recent event in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Obaseki discussed these allegations in a viral video. He stated that individuals allegedly paid by the state government confronted him abroad. They also assaulted members of his team. Obaseki warned that he would meet any violence with equal resistance.

He directly addressed Governor Okpebholo. “If you start with violence, you will reap violence,” Obaseki declared. “The government paid people to attack me in Manchester. They assaulted Albert. I will not stand by. I will fight back.”
The former governor noted his silence since leaving office. However, he stated he cannot remain quiet given these provocations.
Transition Process Criticisms
Obaseki also criticized the new administration’s transition handling. He submitted an 833-page transition document. Yet, officials reportedly demanded sitting allowances. This occurred before reviewing the documents.
“I provided an 833-page transition document,” Obaseki explained. “I wanted to protect my work. I asked for a transition committee meeting. They requested payment for attendance.”
These comments have increased political tensions. Both camps accuse each other of mismanagement. They also cite provocation and disrespect for due process.
