Popular Nigerian On-Air Personality (OAP), Dotun Kayode, has made serious allegations against the United States Embassy in Nigeria. He claims the embassy aided his estranged wife in taking their two daughters out of the country.
Custody Battle and Accusations
Dotun’s estranged wife had previously accused him of domestic violence, emotional abuse, and a forced abortion. He has consistently denied these claims. In his counter-statements, Dotun stated his wife and her family began preventing his access. This concerned their daughters.
Recently, Dotun made fresh claims on his social media platforms. He highlighted the US Embassy’s alleged role. This involved a dramatic turn in his ongoing custody dispute. He accused the embassy of disregarding a court order. He also alleged they assisted in what he termed “international child abduction.”
According to Dotun, his estranged wife unlawfully removed their children from Nigeria. She took them to the US three years ago without his consent. This occurred despite an active divorce and custody case at a Nigerian federal high court.
Dotun claimed he possessed the children’s original passports. He also cited a court order that specifically prevented the children from leaving the jurisdiction.
Demanding Accountability
Dotun is demanding accountability from the embassy. He specifically named the former Consular General, Mary Beth Leonard. He believes a “compromised, biased process” facilitated his ex-wife’s actions.
He alleged, “Papers were most likely forged, or games played.” Dotun further stated, “The American embassy in Nigeria enables child abduction. It is very biased. There was no proper investigation.”
He added, “They destroy families and do not protect kids. I have written for years. I kept quiet for three years, but now it’s time to speak. I see that you believe you uphold a fair system, but you are very unfair.”
The OAP has urged the embassy to either produce his children or offer a fair explanation. He questions how their strict two-parent consent policy was bypassed. This, he says, enabled what he terms “international parental child abduction.”
