The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has confirmed November 26, 2025, as the official kickoff date for the 2025/2026 season. The campaign will conclude on April 22, 2026, with twenty clubs competing across the championship.
In a strategic move to elevate competition standards, the league board announced six teams will face relegation at season’s end. This decision aims to intensify competitiveness throughout all tiers of women’s football in Nigeria.
Festive Break and Season Structure
The schedule incorporates a Christmas hiatus after four match weeks, allowing players and officials to celebrate the festive period. Action resumes on January 7, 2026, as clubs continue their title pursuits.
“We’re committed to delivering a season reflecting Nigerian women’s football growth,” stated the NWFL board. “Our focus remains on quality competition, transparency, and expanded exposure for clubs and athletes.”
Organizers promised enhanced management for the upcoming season, including improved officiating standards, comprehensive media coverage, and better fan engagement initiatives across all match venues.
Reigning and Record-Holding Clubs
Bayelsa Queens enter as defending champions after securing their sixth NWFL title during the 2024/2025 season. Rivers Angels and Pelican Stars remain the competition’s most successful clubs, each holding seven championship titles.
