Reigning Nigeria Premier Football League champions Remo Stars ended their five-match losing streak with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory against El Kanemi Warriors in Abeokuta on Monday. The Sky Blue Stars overturned a second-half deficit to claim three crucial points.
Remo Stars’ Thrilling Turnaround
El Kanemi Warriors took a surprise lead in the 58th minute through Jonas Emmanuel’s header. The visitors had frustrated Remo throughout the first half. Victor Mbaoma hit the crossbar just before halftime. Olamilekan Adedayo and Adama Goita also tested El Kanemi’s goalkeeper.
With head coach Daniel Ogunmodede away on Super Eagles duty, assistant Sulaimon Kamil made attacking substitutions. The tactical changes paid off late in the game. Mbaoma equalized from the penalty spot in the 87th minute after being fouled in the box.
Michael Ibe completed the comeback in stoppage time. He scored the winner after the goalkeeper failed to hold a cross. The victory lifts Remo to 16th position with 13 points. They have two games in hand on most rivals.
Rivers United Join Top Four
Rivers United secured a 1-0 away victory against Kun Khalifat. Maclyn Biokpo scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute. The win moves Finidi George’s side into the top four with 20 points.
Plateau United Maintain Strong Form
Plateau United defeated Bendel Insurance 1-0 at New Jos Stadium. Saka Gafar’s second-half strike sealed the win. The result extends Bendel Insurance’s winless run to seven matches. They now sit 19th in the standings.
Remo Stars will aim to build momentum when they host Enugu Rangers on Thursday. The NPFL table remains tightly contested. Several teams have games in hand that could change the standings.
