A Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture turned violent on Saturday. The match was between Katsina United and Barau FC. It took place at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
Barau FC forward Nana Abraham sustained a deep cut on his neck during the incident. The attack occurred moments after Barau’s Orji Kalu scored a 69th-minute equalizer. This leveled the score at 1-1.

Barau FC confirmed the attack. The club posted a statement online. “The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham,” the post read. It further stated the score: “Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”
Just a minute before the incident, the club had celebrated Kalu’s goal. They updated their followers: “69’ Goal Orji Kalu level the scores. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”
Photos circulating online showed Nana Abraham bleeding heavily. A visible gash was seen on his neck. Match officials and teammates quickly tried to manage the chaos on the pitch.
Security operatives intervened to restore order. The game was suspended temporarily due to the violence.
