Key Northern leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have endorsed Kabiru Turaki as their consensus candidate for the position of national chairman. Turaki previously served as Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.
Upcoming PDP National Convention
The PDP plans to elect new National Working Committee members during its convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025. Ibadan, Oyo State will host the event.
Legal Challenge Threatens Convention
A Federal High Court lawsuit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025 seeks to stop the convention. The plaintiffs include Austin Nwachukwu (Imo State PDP chairman), Amah Abraham Nnanna (Abia State chairman), and Turnah George (South-South Secretary).
Wike’s Alleged Involvement
Sources suggest Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike supports the legal action. The court will hear the case on October 31, 2025.
Zoning Decision Enables Northern Chairmanship
The PDP’s National Executive Committee zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria in August. Following party tradition, this opened the chairmanship position to Northern candidates, enabling Turaki’s endorsement.
