Nigerian media personality and actress Bisola Aiyeola recently discussed the “sex for roles” problem in Nollywood.
She spoke at a recent event. Aiyeola firmly stated she has never been asked for sex to get a movie role.
The mother of one acknowledged challenges faced by actors and crew members. Sexual harassment is a major issue in entertainment, she noted.
However, Aiyeola emphasized her personal experience differs. Her talent alone, she said, has always secured her opportunities.
“Thankfully, I’ve never been asked for sex for roles,” Aiyeola revealed. “Some of us have never faced this. So, I don’t have a personal story. My talent has always spoken for me. It still does.”
Beyond Sexual Harassment: Other Industry Challenges
Aiyeola also highlighted other critical industry issues. These include physical harassment and very long working hours.
Lack of health insurance for many professionals is another concern. She feels sexual harassment often gets too much focus.
“When we only discuss sex for roles, we ignore other major problems,” Aiyeola emphasized. “These issues also greatly affect the industry.”
