Nollywood actress and media personality, Ariyiike Owolagba, known as Ariyiike Dimples, recently shared a challenging experience. It ultimately led her to stop attending church. She recounted a frustrating encounter.
The actress stated that an elderly woman criticized her. She was told she would go to hell for wearing a pencil skirt to church. The woman deemed her attire indecent.
Ariyiike Dimples expressed her shock. She felt unfairly judged by the comment. This incident caused her to stop attending church for three years. She clarified that she remains a practicing Christian.
She spoke about her former community church. “You primarily see elderly people there,” she noted. “Younger members often attend other congregations. The environment felt overly strict.”
“While doctrines are important,” she explained, “they can be simplified. This would better engage young people without judgment.” She believes this approach is crucial.
The woman also reported her to her father. Ariyiike sent a photo of the skirt to her mother. This was to prove her dressing was appropriate. Her father, however, believed in community upbringing.
“I chose to avoid that particular community church,” Ariyiike concluded. “I did not want them to see me anymore.”
