Nigerian movie producer and social commentator Stanley Ontop has been arrested. He is currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Delta State. Reports indicate his detention occurred on Tuesday, December 9.
The exact reason for his arrest remains unclear to the public. However, sources suggest it follows a petition filed by Nollywood actress Queeneth Hilbeth. The specific contents of this petition have not been disclosed.
The Underlying Nollywood Dispute
The controversy reportedly began with allegations involving another actress, Destiny Etiko. Queeneth Hilbeth had accused Etiko of “snatching” a man. This man had allegedly been in a five-year relationship with Hilbeth.
Ontop, in turn, claimed the man was already married. He alleged that he had helped Etiko financially during a difficult period. Afterwards, Hilbeth accused Etiko of wrongdoing.
As the dispute escalated, Ontop made serious public allegations against Hilbeth. These claims included drug use and other inappropriate behaviour. He shared these accusations publicly.
In response, Hilbeth posted a medical report on her Instagram story. She aimed to deny the drug allegations. However, Ontop publicly questioned the report’s authenticity.
Hilbeth has also faced legal challenges. Her colleague Destiny Etiko filed a ₦100 million defamation lawsuit against her. Hilbeth also reported attempts by the police to arrest her. She claimed these attempts were made at Etiko’s request and deemed them unlawful.
