Popular Yoruba Nollywood actress, Wunmi Toriola, has explained her recent apology to veteran colleague, Afeez Owo. She stated her decision stemmed from being a ‘true ambassador of culture’. This apology followed comments made by Afeez Owo. He had previously suggested Toriola’s film roles mirrored her real-life personality, describing ‘violence’ as her ‘comfort zone’.
Owo had further clarified that Wunmi often reacts when pushed. He noted she does not tolerate nonsense.
Wunmi initially reacted strongly on Instagram. She criticized Owo’s interview, calling it ‘rubbish’. She also questioned the trend of publicizing every disagreement on podcasts.
The actors later reconciled. This happened recently at a movie premiere. Their colleague, Odunlade Adekola, hosted the event.
A video of the reconciliation went viral online. Wunmi approached Afeez at the event. She knelt and apologized for her earlier remarks.
She simply said, “I’m sorry, sir. Please forgive me.”
Afeez initially seemed to avoid her. However, he lifted her up after she knelt. The two then shared a hug.
On Tuesday, Wunmi further explained her actions via an Instagram post. She affirmed her choice for peace. She emphasized that elders should always be respected, even during disputes. “I chose to apologise to our legend because I am a true ambassador of culture,” she wrote. She added, “Even in anger, our elders should be off limits.”
Wunmi stressed that elders “deserve calm waters, not raised voices.” She then thanked Afeez Owo for his forgiveness. She also urged fans and friends to embrace peace, declaring “no more grudges.”
