Nollywood actor Prince Eke has denounced the life imprisonment sentence given to Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu as a political maneuver. Eke claims authorities plan to release Kanu before the 2027 elections. His freedom would then be used to negotiate Igbo votes.
The court sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment for multiple charges. He received 20 years for another count without fine options. An additional five-year term was imposed for a separate charge.
In a Friday Instagram post, Eke stated: “MNK’s life sentence was a political stunt. They plan to release him in 2027. His freedom will bargain for Igbo votes. This isn’t justice. It’s exploitation. Nigerians see the script.”
Meanwhile, Deputy House Speaker Benjamin Kalu expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s openness to appeals. Kalu believes Tinubu will consider requests from Igbo leaders regarding Kanu’s case. This came through a statement by his press secretary.
Kalu emphasized a political resolution remains possible despite the conviction. He urged Southeast residents and all Nigerians to maintain calm. The deputy speaker stressed hope persists for Kanu’s release through dialogue.
