The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly stated its position. The party believes the All Progressives Congress (APC) will lose the 2027 general elections. This is despite the APC’s growing number of governors and political figures.
NNPP spokesperson, Johnson, criticized governors who switch parties. He noted these defections happen amidst widespread economic hardship. Many Nigerians now struggle to afford basic medical care. Such moves, he argued, show a disregard for the people’s plight.
Johnson emphasized the opposition’s chances in 2027. There is still ample time, he said. They can organize effectively. This allows them to challenge the ruling party.
People’s Power Over Governor Count
“We know the APC and its members,” Johnson stated. “They will do anything to win elections. However, having all the governors does not guarantee victory.” He explained that the true determinant will be the Nigerian people. They must rise, organize, and defeat the APC at the polls.
Johnson also addressed potential rigging. He noted that massive voter turnout makes rigging much harder. It can even become impossible. He said results that contradict the people’s votes will be clear to the world.
“The 2027 election will be between Nigerians and those they see as despotic,” Johnson declared. He described these politicians as “winning and dining” at the people’s expense. Each governor’s defection, he added, makes citizens increasingly view politicians as being against them. They act according to their own desires, ignoring public welfare.
“How can a governor defect to the ruling party?” he questioned. This happens when people cannot afford essential medical drugs. They struggle with the cost of medication and hospital care. This disconnect highlights politicians’ indifference.
The opposition maintains a strong chance against the APC in 2027. There is sufficient time to prepare and mount a strong campaign. Johnson concluded, “The election will be the people against the APC. The people themselves will speak.”
