The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has launched a nationwide initiative. It aims to mobilise politicians across Nigeria. The party seeks individuals with strong capacity and integrity. This is in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Boniface Aniebonam, the NNPP Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, made this announcement. He released a statement in Lagos on Friday.
The NNPP has also instructed its state executives. They are to commence a comprehensive membership drive. This includes new registrations and updating existing member records.
Aniebonam emphasised strict vetting for new members. He urged state and local government executives to ensure all prospective politicians possess verifiable records. They must also demonstrate integrity and honour.
Addressing the Leadership Tussle with Kwankwaso
Aniebonam also spoke about past challenges. He noted that a significant amount of the party’s time was consumed by a leadership tussle. This conflict involved the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya Movement, led by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Attempts to hijack the NNPP resulted in legal actions. These litigations hindered the party’s participation in previous elections.
“We are now close to resolving these issues,” Aniebonam declared. He called for collective effort. The goal is to advance the NNPP’s core mission: establishing good governance in Nigeria, guided by the fear of God.
He further clarified the party’s position. Existing members who do not align with NNPP ideals are free to join other political parties.
“We bear no grudge against anyone,” Aniebonam affirmed. “Instead, we appreciate and pray for our former members. We wish them well in their new affiliations.”
He urged members to embrace forgiveness. “As mortals, and with God’s wisdom, we must forgive those who betrayed us. This is despite their actions leading to their expulsion.” He advised against worrying about distractions. “We are children of God. Victory awaits us. We believe everything will soon be alright.”
Aniebonam, as the NNPP founder, stated he has moved past past betrayals. He holds no personal grudge against Senator Kwankwaso or Elder Buba Galadima.
His concern was purely about party identity. “We simply advised the Kwankwasiya Movement to stop negotiating using the NNPP name,” he explained. “They also used the incorrect logo.”
He clarified the official NNPP logo: a basket of fruits with green and white colours. He contrasted this with the Kwankwasiya Movement’s logo, which features a red colour and a book.
Aniebonam reminded that INEC cannot register two parties with identical names but different logos. He expressed hope that Kwankwaso and his group would utilise Nigeria’s multi-party system. They could choose to join an existing registered party. Alternatively, they could reactivate their own Nigeria Alliance Party (NAP), which INEC had previously deregistered.
