A Nigerian soldier has expressed significant concern about systemic problems within the nation’s security structure. He voiced frustration over the government’s response to increasing violence nationwide.
In a widely shared online message, the soldier claimed frontline personnel are left exposed. This occurs despite a growing number of casualties.
Troop Concerns: Feelings of Abandonment
Many service members feel forsaken and overworked, he stated. Authorities offer little clarity regarding current security challenges.
He further criticized political leaders. They prioritize personal gains, yet expect soldiers to risk their lives.
Many officers feel their families’ well-being is ignored. This neglect fosters increasing bitterness among the ranks.
Call for Self-Defense Amidst Insecurity
The soldier warned that deteriorating conditions might force citizens and security forces to individual self-defense. Confidence in leadership continues to decline.
He questioned the presence of effective leadership. Can it truly tackle the nation’s insecurity?
His words, in part, expressed profound frustration: “Ladies and gentlemen of the armed forces, arise something fishy is going down deeply wey we no know. Make them let us know. If na to drop the kala for them go back go pick up cutlass defend our family. They still need us for house, them love us. No be say person wey no need us go carry us dey count money for him pocket while him children dey abroad. Make Una carry Una children come put for this work make them do, me I don tire. Them just dey kee person dey kee person Una no dey fit talk. Na stone we be abi na firewood. Abi na because e never touch Una children. E go reach stage wey everybody go fight for himself. I tell Una this one boldly. Make everybody ready to find Kala for himself and fight. I cannot save the nation anymore. I no think whether we even get president again.”
A video accompanied the soldier’s statement. The accompanying tweet read: “Nigeria Doesn’t Have a President. I’m Tired Of The Nigerian Army. Politicians Should Bring Their Children Schooling Abroad To Come And Join The Military. These Terrorists Are Killing Soldiers Every Day, Yet The Government Remains Silent. Get Ready, It Will Soon Get To Everyone,…” This was posted by Somto Okonkwo (@General_Somto) on November 27, 2025.
