A Nigerian soldier has voiced serious concerns. He highlights deep-rooted issues within the nation’s security framework. He also expresses frustration with the government’s response to escalating violence.
In a widely shared online message, the soldier stated his fears. He claims frontline troops face significant vulnerability. This is despite a growing number of casualties.

Service Member Expresses Feelings of Neglect
Many personnel feel abandoned and overstretched, he stated. Authorities provide little clarity on security challenges.
Political leaders, he claims, prioritize personal gain. They expect soldiers to risk their lives regardless.
Many officers feel their families’ welfare is ignored. This neglect fosters resentment among the ranks.
Soldier Suggests Self-Defense as Last Resort for Citizens
The deteriorating situation might force self-defense, the soldier implies. Citizens and personnel may act individually. Confidence in current leadership is diminishing.
He questioned the effectiveness of current leadership. Can they truly tackle insecurity?
He spoke candidly, stating in part:
“Ladies and gentlemen of the armed forces, arise something fishy is going down deeply wey we no know. Make them let us know. If na to drop the kala for them go back go pick up cutlass defend our family. They still need us for house, them love us. No be say person wey no need us go carry us dey count money for him pocket while him children dey abroad. Make Una carry Una children come put for this work make them do, me I don tire. Them just dey kee person dey kee person Una no dey fit talk. Na stone we be abi na firewood. Abi na because e never touch Una children. E go reach stage wey everybody go fight for himself. I tell Una this one boldly. Make everybody ready to find Kala for himself and fight. I cannot save the nation anymore. I no think whether we even get president again”
The soldier’s full statement is available in the accompanying video. A notable tweet from Somto Okonkwo reflects these sentiments.
It states: “Nigeria Doesn’t Have a President. I’m Tired Of The Nigerian Army. Politicians Should Bring Their Children Schooling Abroad To Come And Join The Military. These Terrorists Are Killing Soldiers Every Day, Yet The Government Remains Silent. Get Ready, It Will Soon Get To Everyone,…”
The tweet also includes the original video of the soldier’s outcry.
