Renowned Nigerian singer, Chike Ezekpeazu, has openly discussed his reasons for discontinuing regular church attendance. The talented artiste clarified that his decision does not signify a loss of faith in God.
Chike shared an experience that led to his departure from a particular church. He mentioned a past connection with the praise and worship leader there. This personal history caused him to feel uncomfortable and out of place.
“The person leading the praise and worship and I had history,” Chike explained. “I was having flashbacks. I felt out of place.” He stated he only attended for a week before leaving.
Faith Beyond Formal Worship
The “Boo of the Booless” crooner emphasized that his absence from church does not equate to disbelief. “It’s not because I don’t believe in God. I do,” he asserted. Chike believes in a personal connection with the divine, separate from institutional worship.
He recounted a difficult period earlier in his career. While living in Primewater Gardens with his girlfriend, he felt alone and uncertain. He turned to God for guidance during this challenging time. “I just prayed, ‘God, I don’t have anybody. I don’t have anything. Just help me,'” he recalled.
Chike also shared a peculiar incident shortly after releasing his debut album. He accidentally consumed a potent edible. This left him disoriented for several days, an experience that further shaped his perspective.
The Importance of Right Living
Ultimately, Chike stated that his spiritual path centers on morality and kindness. He believes that living rightly and treating others well is paramount. This, he argues, is more crucial than adhering to specific church rituals. “Church is not for me,” he declared. “There are things I enjoy that I wouldn’t be able to do there.”
He concluded by reiterating his core belief. “What matters most is doing right by people,” Chike emphasized. “Being Christian doesn’t mean you have to live in a certain way. Doing good for others is what counts.”
