Popular Nigerian rapper Oladips has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of collecting ₦10 million before releasing him from custody. He made these claims during a recent appearance on the Trending podcast.
The incident occurred nearly a year after EFCC operatives arrested Oladips during a midnight raid at his residence. He was detained alongside neighbors in November 2024 for alleged fraud.
Detention Conditions and Questionable Release
Oladips spent five days in EFCC detention before his release. The artist maintained that investigators found no evidence against him. He expressed frustration about the ₦10 million payment demanded for his freedom.
Describing the detention conditions, Oladips said: “They packed us like sardines and served terrible food. Fellow artist Zlatan Ibile arranged proper meals for me daily. He’s family to me.”
The rapper questioned the basis of his detention and payment demand: “Why hold me for five days when you found nothing? Why collect ₦10 million for my release? Nigeria just happened to me.”
Oladips on Legal Recourse
When asked about challenging the EFCC legally, Oladips responded with resignation: “Who is my father? It’s just me and my truth.” He implied lacking influential connections to contest the agency’s actions.
The musician maintained his innocence throughout the interview: “If EFCC officials watch this, they know I’m telling the truth. They found nothing on me.”
He concluded with a reflection on his experience: “What was the money for? What justified the suffering? That’s just Nigeria.”
