On Monday morning, a dramatic event occurred. Soldiers from the Nigerian Army reportedly raided Colonel Audu Ogli Achigili’s home. They forcibly took him into a waiting vehicle. His family watched in shock.
Colonel’s Arrest at Home
Online videos show the intense moment. Troops arrived at the officer’s residence. They pulled him into a vehicle. This happened with force.

One video features his emotional son crying. He exclaimed, “See how they are dragging my father.” The boy protested his father’s treatment.
Another clip shows the son’s accusation. He claimed the Army used a lower-ranked sergeant. This sergeant detained Colonel Achigili. The boy stated, “They want to kill my dad.”
Background to His Public Complaint
Colonel Achigili voiced his frustration Sunday. He stated decades of service. He survived many dangerous missions. Yet, his 2023 Army Council-approved promotion remained unapplied.
He believes the delay is intentional. It stems from a land dispute in his community. This plot influenced the decision.
He detailed his extensive service.
He led Sector 3 Garrison in North East Operation Hadin Kai. This lasted two years. He protected the people fiercely. He served in Operation Harmony (IV) Bakassi Peninsula. This was from 1998 to 2000. He also joined the African Union Mission in Darfur (2006-2007). In 2001, he helped restore order. This was during the Lagos OPC crisis. He almost died from the Ikeja bomb blast. These years earned him several awards. They recognized his “unblemished service.”
Allegations of Promotion Obstruction
Colonel Achigili claims his promotion halt is linked. Dr. John Ochai, Oglewu community clan head, is involved. He allegedly influenced Maj. Gen. Gabriel Ochigbano (retired). Ochigbano was a former Military Secretary. This was due to a land dispute.
Achigili stated, “He was a classmate and friend of General Ochigbano.” They attended Government Secondary School, Atilo, in 1985.
He also criticized the promotion system. It allegedly favored certain officers. He called it biased. “Godsons” were promoted over merit.
He commented on recent promotions. These were from Brigadier General to Major General.
Achigili claimed, “41st course members were overlooked.” Junior officers received preference. These overlooked officers are capable and brave. Only two from his course were promoted. One was already deceased.
Professionalism Concerns in the Army
Colonel Achigili warned against these practices. They could undermine Nigerian Army professionalism.
He observed a trend. Education officers gained promotions over combat officers. Military school education quality also dropped. Soldiers now enroll children in private schools. These are outside the barracks.
Plea for Official Action
The officer urged urgent action. He wants his promotion implemented. This must happen before his mandatory retirement.
He stressed the impact. Delays and favoritism demoralize dedicated officers. These individuals risk their lives for the nation.
The Nigerian Army has not yet commented. No official statement exists on Colonel Achigili’s arrest.
