The Nigerian Police Force began enforcing a new directive. President Bola Tinubu ordered police officers withdrawn from Very Important Persons (VIPs). This affects VIPs nationwide.
This action stems from an official memo. Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga shared it publicly. The memo confirms the order’s immediate effect. It was made public on Monday.
Official Memo Mandates Immediate Action
ASP Neji Veronica, Admin Officer, issued the memo. She acted for the Commanding Officer. This was from SPU Base 16 in Lagos. The memo instructed officers. All personnel on VIP security duties must return. They should report to base immediately.
The letter reads:
“SUB NO. 1: ORDER AND DIRECTIVES: Sequel to the directive of Mr. President and C-in-C of the armed forces on the withdrawal of Police personnel attached to VIPs, the Commanding Officer directs with immediate effect the withdrawal of all personnel of SPU Base 16 attached to VIPs/Beats across the federation back to Base. You are all warned to report back before the end of today Monday 24/11/2025 and all to attend the Lecture Parade tomorrow. Attendance shall be taken from the nominal roll. This is for your information and strict compliance.”
National Implementation Anticipated
The memo specifically named SPU Base 16. However, this directive will likely extend nationwide. It forms part of larger reforms. These aim to enhance internal security.
This withdrawal order supports the President’s previous announcement. He stated police officers should be reassigned. They will shift from VIP protection. This strengthens public safety operations.
Police authorities are expected to provide more details soon. Attention now focuses on VIP adjustments. They must adapt to this policy change. Managing potential security gaps during transition is also key.
