A widely circulated video allegedly showing United States military personnel arriving in Nigeria has sparked social media panic across the nation.
Shared on November 6 by an X user known as Spaghetti Mafia, the footage claimed American forces had landed in Bonny Island, Rivers State.
The accompanying caption declared: “Breaking News: US Army lands in Bonny Island, Rivers State!! Donald Trump wasn’t playing around.”
The post rapidly gained thousands of views and comments. Many Nigerians expressed concern about foreign military presence.
Official Response to Alleged Footage
Nigeria’s presidency swiftly dismissed the viral claim as misinformation. Authorities described the video as entirely false.
D.O. Olusegun, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu, responded directly to the post. His statement simply read: “This is false.”

Trump’s Statements Intensify Tensions
This incident followed controversial remarks by former US President Donald Trump. He accused Nigeria of permitting Christian persecution.
Trump claimed Nigeria failed to prevent attacks on Christian communities. He threatened to terminate all American aid to the country.
He designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern.” Trump hinted at potential military action against extremist groups.
These comments drew international criticism. China opposed any foreign military intervention. They reaffirmed support for Nigeria’s sovereignty.
