Preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have officially commenced for the Super Eagles. South Africa-based goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was among the first players to report to camp. More arrivals are expected.
Six additional players are scheduled to join the squad tonight. These include Igoh Ogbu, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Tochukwu Nnadi, Amas Obasogie, Ademola Lookman, and Semi Ajayi. Their arrival signals an intensifying build-up for the tournament.

Coach Eric Chelle had earlier announced his final 28-man squad for AFCON 2025 on Thursday. This squad selection saw Maduka Okoye omitted. However, Francis Uzoho received a recall. Preparations for the Morocco tournament are now in full swing.
Chelle’s confirmed selection features key players. These include Stanley Nwabali, Calvin Bassey, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Victor Osimhen, and Ademola Lookman. These athletes form the core of Nigeria’s campaign. The competition begins in just ten days. The coach has blended experience with current form. He also included several exciting new talents.
Recalls and New Faces Bolster Squad
Francis Uzoho, based in Cyprus, returns to the national team. This marks his comeback after several months away. Defender Igoh Ogbu and striker Paul Onuachu also rejoin the squad. Their experience will be valuable.

The friendly against Egypt on December 16 will be Nigeria’s final warm-up. This match takes place at the Cairo International Stadium. Afterwards, the team will head to Fès, Morocco. They will play all three of their Group C matches there.
The Super Eagles start their AFCON campaign on December 23 against Tanzania. Four days later, on December 27, they face Tunisia. The group stage concludes on December 30 with a match against Uganda. Fans eagerly await these crucial encounters.
