Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has revealed how she narrowly escaped a violent marriage by canceling her wedding at the eleventh hour. She made the courageous decision after enduring repeated physical abuse from her partner, walking away despite intense family pressure.
The actress recounted a particularly brutal incident where her fiancé dragged her by her hair extensions until she bled. During this attack, Nwosu experienced an adrenaline surge that nearly turned fatal.
Breaking Point and Near-Fatal Retaliation
“My partner was extremely violent,” Nwosu stated. “One day, he broke through the kitchen door as I boiled water. He grabbed my braided hair until attachments tore out with blood.” The trauma reached a crisis point when she seized a pestle in self-defense.
“I found unexpected strength that day. I prepared to kill him and face prison. Neighbors saw me half-naked during the struggle before intervening,” she revealed.
Final Escape and Life-Saving Advice
Recognizing the abuse pattern, Nwosu canceled her wedding just 24 hours before the ceremony. She refused to sign marriage documents despite intense pressure. The actress now urges women to flee abusive relationships immediately.
“Marriage isn’t a life-or-death commitment,” she advised. “When violence escalates, you must leave. If you tolerate it once, prepare for lifelong abuse.”
Nwosu issued a stern warning: “Never accept a man who beats you then apologizes. Recognize early signs and exit immediately. Survival matters more than societal expectations.”
