Nigerian media personality Chinedu Ani, popularly known as Nedu, has made a controversial claim. He alleged that some young women in Lagos intentionally get pregnant. Their goal, he stated, is solely to gain weight.
Nedu added that he has heard cases of women choosing pregnancy for this reason. He further claimed these women often terminate the pregnancy once they achieve their desired body size.
Nedu shared his observations during a recent discussion. He said, “The one way girls dey do now for Nigeria… some very slim girls, I’ve heard girls do it.”
He continued, “When they want to add weight, what they do is they get pregnant. Once they get pregnant, dem don come add weight, pregnancy weight, then they will now terminate the pregnancy.”
Widespread Reactions Online
His statement quickly sparked widespread reactions online. Many people shared their own experiences. Others agreed with his controversial claim.
One user, Chioma Sucre, supported Nedu’s assertion. She wrote, “It’s not a lie. I know a colleague whom I would almost swear was pregnant. Her backside became prominent, and her belly grew. Next thing, I saw her backside, but no more belly.”
Krishy Beauty commented, “This information is old news. Now, they use supplements. I am trying to lose the weight, imagine!”
Lolo Ezenwa shared a similar sentiment. “I’m not surprised,” she said. “I have heard this before. Some girls even go to chemists or pharmacies for fattening medications.”
Edafe Fego also called the claim “old news.” Fego elaborated, “Some girls get pregnant on purpose. They wait for their breasts to get bigger. Their bodies become thicker. Then they abort.”
Fego added, “Afterwards, they hit the gym to perfect their shape. I found out about this over five years ago. They don’t even hide it.”
Precious Nnenna cited a medical professional. “My customer, a medical doctor, said something similar,” Nnenna stated. “She noted that most of them damage their wombs. But as long as they achieve their desired look, they do not care.”
Chimdi Anucha offered another controversial observation. “Many also intentionally take HIV medicine,” Anucha claimed. “This is just to gain some pounds of flesh.”
James Felisha corroborated the claims. “It’s true,” Felisha wrote. “Some girls get pregnant intentionally before their birthday. This is to gain weight for their birthday photoshoot. They then terminate the pregnancy.”
Felisha expressed disbelief. “I don’t understand why someone would endure such pain,” Felisha added. “And even become a murderer because of weight. It’s the same weight I am trying to lose. Amazing.”
