Award-winning Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye, widely known as Mr P, recently shared a profound personal revelation. He openly declared his deep-seated fear of poverty and financial hardship. Mr P stated that being broke is his greatest apprehension in life.
Recalling a Traumatic Childhood
Recalling his formative years, Mr P recounted a particularly challenging period. His family once lived in a rented single-room apartment. This home was eventually demolished. The landlord had sold the property, leaving his family in a precarious situation.
He vividly described their living conditions. “We were living in a boys’ quarter,” he explained. “My entire family lived there. My mum, my dad, six boys, and two girls were all in a one-bedroom apartment.” They even divided the room with a curtain. The situation worsened when the landlord sold the compound. Despite their pleas for more time, bulldozers arrived. They started demolishing the house while his family was still inside.
A Vow Against Poverty
Mr P emphasized that he has personally experienced the harsh realities of poverty. He declared a firm resolve never to return to such a state. “I am not afraid of death,” he asserted. “The only thing I am afraid of in this life is poverty, of being broke.” His past struggles clearly fuel his drive and dedication to maintaining financial stability.
