Jalal Jayed Appointed for High-Stakes Clash
Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed will officiate the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff final between Nigeria and DR Congo. Jayed has previous experience with the Super Eagles, having managed their 2-0 victory over Rwanda in March. Victor Osimhen scored both goals in that match.
Jayed will be assisted by fellow Moroccans Mustapha Akarkad and Zakaria Bernissi. Tunisian official Mahrez El Malki serves as fourth referee. VAR duties fall to Algeria’s Lahlou Benbraham and Tunisia’s Haitham Guirat.
Ndidi Cleared for Crucial Match
Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is available for selection after CAF overturned his suspension. He received a second yellow card during Nigeria’s win against Gabon. The Confederation of African Football confirmed his eligibility for the final.
Captain William Troost-Ekong welcomed the news. “We’re happy Wilfred can play. The clarification resolves everything,” he stated. Troost-Ekong acknowledged the significance of avoiding suspension through accumulated yellows.
Ndidi impressed in Nigeria’s 4-1 victory over Gabon. He assisted Victor Osimhen’s goal during that dominant performance.
Troost-Ekong Prepares for Congo Challenge
Troost-Ekong anticipates a demanding match against DR Congo. Nigeria advanced by defeating Gabon, while Congo upset Cameroon 1-0. “We need no extra motivation,” the captain emphasized. “Everyone wants World Cup qualification.”
He highlighted Congo’s strengths: “They’re a good side with talented players. Each match brings new challenges. We must adapt accordingly.” Troost-Ekong noted differences from previous opponents like Gabon.
The decisive playoff final kicks off at 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 16 in Rabat. The winner progresses to the intercontinental playoffs for 2026 World Cup qualification.
