Mohammad Barde, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Gombe State’s 2023 governorship election, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Barde, who secured second place in last year’s governorship poll behind Governor Inuwa Yahaya, stated that his move to ADC forms part of strategic preparations for the 2027 general elections.
After formally validating his ADC membership, Barde explained his decision stemmed from conviction that the party offers a credible platform for meaningful political engagement.
“This move follows my assessment of Nigeria’s pressing challenges,” Barde stated. “We need a political structure capable of effectively addressing national issues.”
The former governorship candidate criticized deteriorating security conditions and infrastructure deficiencies across Gombe State and Nigeria. He emphasized these challenges directly impact citizens’ welfare and require purposeful political solutions.
Barde expressed confidence in ADC’s capacity to drive positive change, highlighting the party’s commitment to inclusive leadership and equitable opportunities for all Nigerians.
“ADC’s ideology aligns with my governance vision prioritizing fairness, security, and sustainable development,” he affirmed.
The defecting politician revealed ADC’s plans to conduct state congresses and a national convention in February 2026. He urged members to actively participate in ongoing membership revalidation and mobilize new supporters.
