Bolaji Akinola, Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, has strongly rejected Senator Iyiola Omisore’s claims. Omisore, an Osun State governorship aspirant, accused Minister Oyetola of interfering in the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening process.
Akinola released a statement on Sunday, describing Omisore’s allegations as “baseless, misleading,” and “totally false.”
Omisore’s accusations followed his disqualification from the party’s primary scheduled for December 13, 2025. Six other aspirants were also disqualified alongside him.
Senator Omisore had earlier spoken with newsmen in Abuja on Saturday. He criticized his disqualification from the Osun governorship primary, calling the decision “a huge joke.” He further accused the screening panel of bias and procedural violations. Omisore claimed they acted under pressure to disqualify aspirants, favouring a specific candidate.
Speaking on behalf of Minister Oyetola, Akinola firmly distanced the Minister from these controversial screening decisions.
Akinola clarified that Oyetola, a former Osun State Governor, had “no role, direct or indirect,” in the Screening Committee’s decisions. These decisions concern the upcoming primary.
He emphasized the independence of both the Screening Committee and the Screening Appeal Panel. He noted these are constitutional APC organs. They are empowered to function without external interference.
Akinola affirmed Minister Oyetola’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to party rules. These are principles he would never compromise.
The Special Adviser asserted Oyetola’s unwavering commitment to internal democracy as a respected leader. He urged all aspirants to use the party’s established internal mechanisms for their complaints. Public allegations, he added, should be avoided.
