Abdullahi Atah serves as the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development. He recently issued a strong warning to the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Atah cautioned them against publicizing the party’s internal affairs.
His comments came after the party released a warning statement. Minister Atah responded via a statement from his publicity aide, Seyi Olorunsola.
Atah stated that the party’s warning amounted to a distraction. He emphasized more critical national issues. These include the prevailing insecurity across Nigeria.
He maintained that his recent public remarks were within his democratic rights. Atah insisted they were not meant to cause internal party friction.
The Minister explained his formal response was for clarity. It also aimed at public education. He wanted to restate his firm loyalty. This loyalty is to both the APC and President Bola Tinubu.
An Unnecessary Distraction
The statement from Atah’s office read, “The Honourable Minister views this decision with concern. Drafting and circulating such a letter is particularly ill-timed. It was even copied to the President.
“Nigeria currently faces a declared national security emergency. This action is an unnecessary distraction.”
The statement highlighted the President’s actions. He has suspended international engagements. These include the G-20 Summit in South Africa. A planned AU meeting in Angola was also postponed.
President Tinubu did this to address urgent state security matters. Therefore, every patriotic leader must prioritize unity. They must also maintain focus. Unwavering support for the Commander-in-Chief is essential.
Affirming Loyalty and Democratic Rights
Minister Atah reiterated his position. He is a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is also a proud APC member in Kano State. Above all, he is a Nigerian citizen. Citizens have constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression and opinion.
He affirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu. His dedication to the APC is also unquestionable. He has consistently shown this through sacrifice. His commitment to the party’s ideals is clear.
Thus, any suggestion otherwise is baseless. Claims that his comments indicate ‘disaffection’ are unfounded. The idea that he seeks to arrogate party leadership is also false.
These claims reflect a narrow understanding. They misinterpret democratic rights. They also misunderstand internal party dynamics.
The statement concluded forcefully. “If offering a sincere opinion is wrong, then the Minister stands ‘guilty as charged’. He is only guilty of loving his party. He speaks truthfully and strategically. This is crucial as 2027 elections approach.”
