A political division has emerged within Kebbi State’s prominent Malami family. Almustapha Malami, younger brother to former Attorney General Abubakar Malami (SAN), has shifted political allegiance. He now backs incumbent APC Governor Nasir Idris for re-election.
Analysts view Monday’s declaration in Birnin Kebbi as unexpected. This move comes despite the known rivalry between ex-AGF Malami (now with ADC) and Governor Idris.
Development Initiatives Drive Support
Almustapha Malami cited Governor Idris’ development record as his motivation. He stated: “Governor Nasir Idris has transformed Birnin Kebbi. He elevated our capital to its deserved status.” Malami predicted greater progress if Idris wins re-election in 2027.
He emphasized his decision was independent. “I joined this cause voluntarily with clear conviction,” Malami asserted. “I’ll support any government delivering on its promises to citizens.”
APC Leadership Welcomes New Ally
Kebbi APC Chairman Alhaji Muhammed Kana Zuru praised the move. He called it a demonstration of political discernment. Kana welcomed Almustapha into party structures ahead of 2027 polls.
“We welcome principled individuals sharing our vision,” stated Kana. “Almustapha Malami will be fully integrated into APC activities. We guarantee his protection within our party.”
