Nigerian dancer and former Big Brother Naija star, Roseline Omokhoa Afije, popularly known as Liquorose, recently shared a significant personal story. She revealed how she almost missed her opportunity to participate in the reality show in 2020.
This major setback deeply affected her. It nearly led her to give up on her dream of joining the popular competition.
Liquorose and fellow aspiring contestant, Jaypaul, both tested positive for COVID-19 that year. This unfortunate diagnosis prevented them from entering the BBNaija house in 2020.
Despite the immense disappointment, both hopefuls did not give up. They returned to audition again for the subsequent season.
Liquorose admitted she hesitated about the 2021 auditions. Her previous experience weighed heavily on her mind. However, a supportive friend encouraged her to try one more time.
She eventually went through the rigorous selection process. To her surprise, she later discovered she had been chosen.
Her persistence ultimately paid off. Liquorose competed in Big Brother Naija Season 6, “Shine Ya Eye,” in 2021. She emerged as the runner-up, narrowly losing the grand prize to Whitemoney.
Recalling the painful incident from 2020, she shared her feelings. “In 2020, I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show. I was dressed up and make up done, but I was not called. That really hurt me,” Liquorose explained.
She further elaborated on her motivation for returning. “That experience was messing with me. So, the following year, I didn’t even want to audition but my friend convinced me to try. I just auditioned and forgot about it. I just went to check my spam one day and I discovered that I have been selected. It was crazy,” she added.
