Popular Nigerian dancer, Roseline Afije, famously known as Liquorose, recently shared a significant personal story. She revealed how a positive COVID-19 test almost derailed her Big Brother Naija dream in 2020.
This unexpected setback deeply affected the former Big Brother Naija star. It left her feeling disheartened and nearly made her abandon her ambition of joining the popular reality show.
In 2020, Liquorose and fellow aspiring contestant, Jaypaul, both tested positive for COVID-19. This diagnosis prevented them from participating in that season of the show.
Despite the initial disappointment, both individuals decided to re-audition the following year. Liquorose admitted she almost skipped the 2021 auditions due to her previous experience. However, a friend’s encouragement prompted her to give it another shot.
She went through the audition process once more and later discovered she had been selected. Her persistence ultimately paid off. She competed in Big Brother Naija Season 6 in 2021.
Liquorose emerged as the runner-up, narrowly missing the grand prize to fellow housemate Whitemoney.
The Painful Experience
Recounting the ordeal, Liquorose explained the emotional toll it took on her. She stated, “In 2020, I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show. I was dressed up and make-up done, but I was not called. That really hurt me.”
She further elaborated on how the memory lingered. “That experience was messing with me. So, the following year, I didn’t even want to audition, but my friend convinced me to try,” she added. “I just auditioned and forgot about it.”
Her eventual selection came as a complete surprise. Liquorose revealed, “I just went to check my spam one day, and I discovered that I had been selected. It was crazy.”
Her story highlights the unforeseen challenges faced by many during the pandemic. It also underscores the importance of resilience in pursuing one’s dreams, even after significant setbacks.
