Nigerian dancer and reality TV star, Roseline Omokhoa Afije, popularly known as Liquorose, has shared a profound challenge from her past. She revealed how she nearly missed her chance on Big Brother Naija in 2020. This significant setback left her deeply discouraged and almost made her give up on her dream of joining the popular reality show.
In 2020, Liquorose and fellow aspiring contestant, Jaypaul, both tested positive for COVID-19. Consequently, they were unable to participate in that year’s edition of Big Brother Naija. Despite the immense disappointment, both individuals later returned to audition for the subsequent season.
The Road to Redemption
Liquorose confessed that she almost skipped the 2021 auditions. Her previous experience had profoundly affected her motivation. However, a close friend strongly encouraged her to give it another try. She proceeded with the audition process, largely without high expectations. Later, she discovered she had been successfully selected for the show.
Her persistence ultimately bore fruit. Liquorose competed in Big Brother Naija Season 6 in 2021. She impressively emerged as the first runner-up, narrowly missing the grand prize to fellow contestant, Whitemoney.
Recounting the emotional experience, Liquorose shared her feelings. “In 2020, I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show,” she began. “I was dressed up and my makeup was done, but I was not called.” She added, “That really hurt me. That experience was truly messing with me.”
She continued, detailing her hesitation for the next season. “So, the following year, I didn’t even want to audition. But my friend convinced me to try.” Liquorose explained, “I just auditioned and then forgot about it. I went to check my spam one day and discovered I had been selected. It was crazy.”
