Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) expulsion of his principal and former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose. He characterized the party’s decision as premature celebratory behavior.
In a social media statement, Olayinka mocked the convention proceedings in Ibadan. He suggested attendees had begun their “Dirty December” festivities early. “When people start celebrations ahead of time,” he remarked, “their pronouncements lose credibility.”
The presidential aide dismissed delegates’ comments as unserious. He asserted the gathering focused more on social enjoyment than political substance. After indulging in drinks, Olayinka claimed, attendees felt emboldened to make statements lacking gravity.
The expulsion motion received unanimous convention approval. It was moved by PDP founding member Bode George and seconded by Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed. This occurred despite existing court orders restraining the convention.
Several party elders had urged the Damagum-led faction to respect judicial injunctions. They warned against actions potentially deepening fractures within the already divided opposition party.
