Balogun Eko, a prominent Lagos community leader, publicly challenged Fuji musician K1 De Ultimate. This follows the singer’s declared interest in the Awujale throne of Ijebuland.
The chief asserts that K1 lacks ties to Ijebuland. He states K1 is not linked to any royal lineage there.
Chief Questions K1’s Royal Heritage
Balogun Eko, the Epetedo Area’s Chief Balogun, declared K1’s ineligibility. In a viral video, he stated K1 has no connections to Ijebu-Ode. Thus, K1 cannot claim the Awujale stool.
K1 Expresses Royal Ambition
K1 formally expressed his interest in the Awujale throne on December 3, 2025.
His letter identified him as a “bonafide son.” He claimed lineage from the Fusengbuwa ruling house. This signaled his intent to compete for the respected title.
Royal House Requires Ancestral Proof
Abdulateef Owoyemi chairs the Fusengbuwa ruling house. He stressed that expressing interest is merely initial. All candidates must provide a detailed lineage form. This form must trace at least seven generations of ancestry.
Claims of Political Interference
Balogun Eko further alleged K1’s attempt to involve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, the President reportedly rejected this overture.
He linked this rejection to the ValueJet controversy. This incident occurred at Abuja airport and caused tension.
Demand for Ancestral Evidence
Balogun Eko cited family accounts. K1’s parents lived outside Ijebuland during key periods, he stated.
He challenged K1 to prove his lineage. The musician must show his father’s burial site in Ijebu. Alternatively, he needs to present six Ijebu-Ode or regional relatives. This would support his claim.
Balogun Eko, speaking in Yoruba, directly addressed K1. He stated, ‘Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, you are already Fuji’s king. Don’t be selfish. You cannot become Awujale.’
He added, ‘President Bola Ahmed Tinubu advised you to drop the bid. You cannot be Ijebuland’s king. Was your anger at the airport related to this response?’
‘Ijebu people fear you,’ the chief continued. ‘They struggle to convey their disinterest in your kingship.’ He stressed, ‘You are unrelated to any of the four royal lineages.’
Balogun Eko shared family accounts. His uncle knew K1 well. He recounted K1’s mother often sought refuge at his home. This happened during parental disagreements.
He noted their reconciliation happened later. This was after K1’s mother began selling clothes. His father then followed her to Ilepeju Ekiti. K1’s father passed away and was buried there.
The Ijebu people demand proof, he stated. K1 must identify his father’s burial site in Ijebu. Alternatively, he needs six Ijebu-Ode or regional relatives. ‘Do not cause problems,’ he warned. ‘Peace exists elsewhere; avoid disrupting it here.’
