A faction of the Labour Party (LP) has submitted an interim committee list to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This list contains 34 members. Senator Nenadi Usman leads this faction. Darlington Nwokocha serves as its Interim National Secretary. They formally confirmed the submission in a communique dated November 27, 2025.
The letter was addressed to Professor Joash Amupitan, the INEC Chairman. The commission officially received it on Friday, November 28, 2025. This submission included a detailed cover letter. The Usman-led leadership cited the LP constitution. They also referenced a National Executive Council (NEC) resolution from July 18, 2025. This resolution, they claim, empowers their faction. It allows them to form an interim national leadership for the party.
Senator Usman urged INEC to recognize these submitted names. She insists they represent the LP’s legitimate leadership. Usman stated, “We are pleased to forward the names and designations of the reconstituted members of the Interim National Leadership.” She added this aligns with the LP constitution. It also follows statutory NEC resolutions of July 18, 2025. These were previously sent to the commission. INEC acknowledged them on July 21, 2025.
She further clarified the NEC empowered her faction. This was to “constitute the full body of the interim national leadership.” It complies with Article 13 of the Labour Party constitution.
Amidst Leadership Tussle
This move by Usman’s faction follows a rival NEC meeting. Julius Abure convened this meeting on Thursday. Abure was reaffirmed as the National Chairman at his meeting. This highlights the ongoing leadership dispute within the party. The new list serves as a reminder to INEC. The Interim National Leadership, according to Usman, emerged from “statutory NEC resolutions.” These resolutions were made on Friday, July 18, 2025. This aligns perfectly with Article 13 of the party’s constitution. Usman again pressed INEC. She asked them to officially acknowledge the forwarded names. These names, she stressed, form the authentic Interim National Working Committee of the Labour Party.Key Interim Committee Members
Beyond Senator Usman and Darlington Nwokocha, several key figures feature on the 34-member list. These include Mohammed Misau, Deputy National Chairman (TUC).
