French superstar Kylian Mbappé has initiated legal action against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The Real Madrid forward is embroiled in a dispute over hundreds of millions of euros.
The Paris Labour Court heard the case on Monday. This session brought to light a significant financial clash. It involves the celebrated player and his former employers.
Mbappé’s Claim: €240 Million in Damages
According to reports from Le Parisien, Mbappé is seeking €240 million in damages. He cites losses incurred from his departure in the summer of 2024. Mbappé claims PSG failed to convert his fixed-term contract into a permanent one. He also alleges the club owes him €55 million in unpaid wages and bonuses.
Delphine Weil-Heden, Mbappé’s lawyer, addressed the media in April. She stated, “This is simply a matter of an employee facing an employer who has failed to pay wages.”
Weil-Heden is representing Mbappé while he recovers from an ankle injury. She added that her client is “committed to defending his rights.” This commitment extends not only to himself but also to “all other players who have been wronged by the club.”
PSG Counter-Sues for €180 Million
PSG has responded by demanding €180 million from Mbappé. The club alleges that the player misled them. They claim he had promised not to leave on a free transfer.
During the court hearing, PSG revealed a significant detail. Mbappé rejected a €300 million offer from Saudi Arabia in July 2023. He ultimately refused to renew his contract. This meant he left PSG without the club receiving a transfer fee.
The club also accused Mbappé’s legal team of presenting an “absurd narrative.” Earlier this year, Mbappé briefly secured a provisional attachment of the disputed funds. However, the court overturned this decision on May 26.
