New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has declared his party’s readiness to form alliances with other political groups ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. The former Kano governor described the upcoming polls as potentially “tough” and expressed willingness to collaborate with any party, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), if terms prioritize public welfare and protect NNPP’s nationwide structures.
Conditions for Political Partnerships
In a BBC Hausa interview, Kwankwaso stressed that any merger must clearly benefit his party: “If you propose NNPP joins APC, specify what we gain. We have gubernatorial candidates across all states and national structures. What would our members receive?” The statement came during a meeting with former political adviser Buhari Bakwana and APC members from Kano’s 44 LGAs at Kwankwaso’s residence.
Alliance Criteria and Elite Critique
Kwankwaso emphasized alliance decisions would hinge on shared values: “We’ll partner with APC, PDP, ADC, Jonathan, or Peter Obi if satisfied with their competence and integrity. Any ally must address Nigerians’ needs.” He criticized political elites for ignoring mass suffering: “Ordinary citizens face killings in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Kaduna while officials enjoy Abuja luxury. Many lawmakers and ministers focus on self-enrichment rather than service.”
2027 Election Projections
Predicting a more competitive 2027 vote, Kwankwaso noted heightened public engagement: “These elections will be tougher. Citizens are now more involved and informed due to radio and social media. People seek solutions to national challenges.” He anticipated changed voter behavior: “Fewer will demand money for votes. We may witness unprecedented developments in Nigeria’s electoral history as citizens prioritize better futures for their families.”
