Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has dismissed reports of discord between himself and lawmakers of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The clarification came during his interview with BBC Hausa, where he outlined the responsibilities of elected representatives.
“Our political system operates on mutual respect and counsel,” Kwankwaso stated. “Each officeholder has distinct duties without interference. We’ve granted everyone autonomy to fulfill their roles – how they exercise that freedom remains their prerogative.”
The NNPC leader also refuted claims that he directs governance in Kano under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. He described their relationship as collaborative, rooted in shared political objectives and understanding.
“Before the 2019 elections, we collectively identified Governor Yusuf as Kano’s ideal leader,” Kwankwaso explained. “He received our full endorsement because of his capabilities. The governor exercises complete independence in administering the state.”
The former governor attributed rumors about his involvement in state contracts and governance to political mischief-makers. He emphasized that such narratives contradict the NNPP’s operational principles.
