The Anglican community in Kaduna State faces a profound tragedy. Reverend Edwin Achi, an Anglican priest, has died. He was kidnapped with his wife, Sarah, in Chikun Local Government Area.
The Abduction and Ransom Demands
Armed bandits abducted the couple from their Nissi community home. This late-night raid occurred on October 28, 2025. Their daughter was also taken captive.
Kidnappers initially demanded a N600 million ransom. They later lowered it to N200 million. The family could not afford this amount.
Diocese Confirms Tragic Loss
The Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, issued a statement. It expressed deep sorrow. The Venerable Edwin Achi has passed away. He served as Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero.
Reverend Achi was abducted with his wife on October 28, 2025. His death is now confirmed. This loss deeply affects the Diocese, clergy, and church community. Many were touched by his faithful ministry and humble spirit.
Prayers continue for his wife and daughter’s safe return. They remain in captivity. The “Standup for Jesus 2025” event is canceled. This is in honor of Reverend Achi.
The Anglican Diocese of Kaduna confirmed his death. A statement on their Facebook page announced it on November 26, 2025. They called it a deeply painful event for the church.
Ongoing Captivity and Family’s Plea
Avril, Reverend Achi’s nephew, confirmed his uncle’s murder. He stated that the abductors used the cleric’s phone. They took photos and posted them to his Facebook profile.
A family member spoke to FIJ, sharing their grief. The family is in turmoil. They could not pay the demanded ransom.
Security agencies have not commented officially. Efforts to rescue the remaining captives are unknown.
“The initial ransom demand was N600 million,” a source said. “It later dropped to about N200 million. Kidnappers threatened to kill the hostages if payment was not made this weekend.”
Visual Evidence from Abductors
Kidnappers released photos of the priest and his wife earlier that Tuesday. This caused widespread alarm. The criminals had threatened the victims’ lives. They demanded the ransom by week’s end.
