Daniel Amos, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on House Services, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amos represents Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in Kaduna State. He announced his political switch during a Wednesday rally at Kafanchan Township Stadium. Senator Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, officially welcomed him into the APC fold.
A formal defection letter was read during plenary by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen. The lawmaker cited “unresolved contradictions” within PDP’s national leadership as justification. Amos stated these issues significantly weakened the opposition party’s functionality.
“Leaving PDP wasn’t an easy decision,” Amos acknowledged. “It was especially difficult since the party entrusted me with my people’s mandate after years of service.”
He criticized PDP’s loss of focus, claiming internal conflicts made the party “increasingly unattractive.” Amos described PDP as “weighed down by its own internal antics.”
Following consultations with constituents, Amos decided to align with APC. He aims to support President Bola Tinubu’s policies. The move also endorses Kaduna Governor Uba Sani’s peacebuilding and economic development initiatives.
