Supporters of former President Goodluck Jonathan made a significant appearance at the Peoples Democratic Party’s ongoing convention in Ibadan, Oyo State. Demonstrators prominently displayed flags featuring Jonathan’s image alongside Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, positioned as his potential running mate for upcoming elections.
Despite Jonathan’s public silence regarding his political ambitions, associates have reportedly confirmed his readiness to contest. Posters of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde were also visible at the convention venue on Friday, signaling active political positioning.
Governors Defy Court Order Amid Party Tensions
Four PDP governors arrived in Ibadan despite a Federal High Court injunction halting the scheduled convention. South-West PDP Chairman Kamorudeen Ajisafe confirmed attendance from Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo).
The gathering unfolded against deepening factional divisions within the party. Tensions persist between groups aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, creating a charged political atmosphere.
