The Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disowned individuals. These people are parading as its delegates at the party’s recent convention in Ibadan. The chapter warned that no authentic delegate from Jigawa participated in the event. This action comes amidst the PDP’s deepening national crisis.
Aliyu Jalam Gumel, the state chairman of the party, issued this disclaimer. He posted it on his official Facebook page late Saturday. Gumel firmly stated that Jigawa PDP was not represented at the convention.
His position followed the Ibadan gathering. The convention proceeded hours after a fresh Federal High Court order. This order aimed to halt the event. It also reaffirmed former Governor Sule Lamido’s eligibility for party leadership processes.
Gumel stated that impostors have been spreading false claims online. They posed as elected delegates from Jigawa.
“These impostors do not represent us,” he wrote. “Jigawa PDP is committed to genuine reconciliation and legal processes. We seek to unite our great party, not divide it.”
He further added that anyone presenting themselves as a Jigawa delegate at the Ibadan convention was “nothing but a fraudster.”
The chairman stressed the chapter’s decision. Their boycott of the convention aligned with the Federal High Court judgment. This judgment restored Lamido’s right to contest the chairmanship.
“The Jigawa chapter, under my leadership, has boycotted the event entirely,” Gumel affirmed. “This stance complies with the court judgment. It favors Lamido’s participation in party processes.”
Gumel noted that the chapter would only participate in lawful and inclusive party activities.
“We are not participating in the convention,” he reiterated. “This decision underscores Jigawa’s loyalty to legal directives. It also reflects our internal reconciliation efforts.”
Gumel expressed worry over the party’s current state. He lamented that the PDP had been engulfed by internal discord.
“We are saddened by how our party affairs are being handled,” he said. “Especially the current crisis rocking its foundations.”
Despite the turmoil, he maintained that Jigawa PDP remains committed to restoring unity.
“Our chapter is resolute,” he stated. “We will participate only in processes that reconcile our party. We call upon leaders to reach out to all aggrieved parties. They must find a solution to this crisis.”
The chairman reiterated the chapter’s position. He cautioned the public against recognizing anyone claiming to represent Jigawa.
“The Jigawa State Chapter of the PDP has distanced itself from the ongoing convention,” he warned. “Any person claiming to be a delegate from Jigawa State is a fraudster.”
