Clarke and Speid Fire Warning Ahead of Unity Cup Final
Jamaica midfielder Courtney Clarke marked his international debut with a goal as the Reggae Boyz defeated India 2-0 in the Unity Cup semi‑final at The Valley. Kaheim Dixon added the second goal, securing a comfortable victory and setting up a final showdown with Nigeria.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles advanced to the final after a dominant 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in their own semi‑final. Head coach Éric Chelle praised his side’s control from start to finish, extending their strong record in the tournament.
Following the win over India, Clarke said the team would stick to its game plan, maintain energy, and let football decide the outcome. “We just have to keep working and try to beat Nigeria,” he added.
The Reggae Boyz arrive at the final with painful memories, having lost the last two Unity Cup finals to the three‑time African champions. Most recently, they fell on penalties after staging a dramatic comeback from two goals down in last year’s decider.
Head coach Rudolph Speid believes this youthful Jamaican squad can finally break the streak. He noted that while the Super Eagles are very good, every team is beatable and Jamaica must stay aware of the threat while bringing its own strengths to the pitch.
Speid added, “Nobody is a winner before the game is played. That’s where we are right now.”
The Unity Cup final will be played at The Valley on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
