Dumebi Kachikwu, a former presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has voiced deep disappointment. He expressed strong concern regarding Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Kachikwu directly urged President Bola Tinubu. He called on the President to publicly name those responsible for the ongoing crisis.
Kachikwu questioned the root cause of the crisis. He asked if it stemmed from farmer-herder clashes or a deeper religious and political conflict.
The politician further pressed for transparency. He urged President Tinubu to release precise figures on casualties. This includes tribal affiliations, regions, and affected communities.
Kachikwu declared, “We are tired of mere hints and threats about exposing those funding these terrorists.” He added, “Surely, you owe it to the Nigerian people to expose and prosecute them. This holds true even if you believe their identities are already known.'”
He also criticized past administrations for their failure to tackle the issue. Kachikwu noted that four presidents have served since the conflict began. None, he stated, have fully disclosed the truth to Nigerians about the situation.
Kachikwu emphasized the readiness of the Nigerian people. They are prepared to confront any enemy. However, he stressed that the President must first identify this enemy. Only then can decisive action be taken.
Kachikwu further asserted, “We cannot trivialise Nigerian lives for political gain.” He continued, “We must also separate financial interests from this conflict. Instead, we should focus on the serious business of ending the war itself.'”
Commenting on the recent change of the Defence Minister, Kachikwu stated it was insufficient. He urged the President to move past symbolic gestures. Instead, he should inform Nigerians truthfully about the conflict.
