The distressing incident unfolded after the couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered their bodies. She immediately alerted the police.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) quickly responded to the report. Upon arrival, officials confirmed the filmmaker and his wife were already deceased. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) soon joined the scene to commence their investigation.
The deaths are being treated as a double homicide. Initial reports suggest both victims died from apparent stab wounds.
Officials have so far only described the incident as a “family incident.” No further details regarding potential suspects or motives have been released at this time.
The Reiner family has issued a statement to Variety, requesting privacy during this difficult period of mourning. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the statement read.
