A recent abduction at St Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri village has led to further tragedy. Two parents connected to the incident have reportedly passed away. The school is located in the Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
Most Rev Bulus Dauwa Yohanna confirmed the deaths. He is the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese. His media aide, Daniel Atori, released the statement in Minna on Tuesday.

Bishop Yohanna also chairs the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state. He owns the affected school. He identified one of the deceased as Anthony Musa.
Musa suffered a fatal heart attack. This occurred shortly after the St Mary’s abduction. Efforts are still underway to reach the family of the second parent. Her identity remains unknown.
Bishop Yohanna stated, “The man Anthony Musa died of heart attack. We lack details for the female victim. We have not yet reached her family.”
Update on Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Release
In a separate development, authorities confirmed the release of 24 schoolgirls. These students were previously abducted in Kebbi State.
The students have been reunited with their families. However, the precise circumstances of their freedom remain unclear. No suspects linked to this incident have been arrested.
Community leaders in Kebbi expressed relief. They urged the government and security agencies for lasting solutions. Preventing future school kidnappings across the region is paramount.
