Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has pledged full commitment to preserving democracy in Nigeria. He declared his faction’s resolve to remain at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Headquarters in Abuja indefinitely.
Makinde addressed journalists following violent clashes between his supporters and the faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. Police deployed tear gas to control escalating tensions during attempts to hold parallel meetings.
Defending Democratic Principles
The governor emphasized their protest transcends party politics. “This fight concerns Nigeria’s democratic future,” Makinde stated. He acknowledged the crisis might intensify before resolution but vowed unwavering commitment.
“I bring a message of hope to Nigerians nationwide,” Makinde declared. “We stand on solid ground for democracy’s survival. If required, we’ll occupy this building for two weeks.”
Makinde framed the standoff as critical for Nigeria’s governance. He urged citizens to recognize the struggle’s significance beyond PDP internal conflicts.
